Frequently asked questions
The questions we hear most, answered plainly. Don’t see yours? Call or text us and we’ll walk you through it.
Can I keep my existing phone numbers?
Absolutely. Your existing numbers port over to Phoneware's cloud phone service, and each phone gets its own dedicated line. Outgoing calls show the number you choose, each phone's direct number or your main business number, instead of rotating through a line group like traditional service.
How much internet bandwidth do I need?
Not a lot. Each call uses roughly 30–90 kbps depending on the codec (about 30 kbps on G729, about 90 kbps on G711). A modest business connection comfortably supports many simultaneous calls; we'll size it with you.
How good is the audio quality?
Better than a traditional phone. VoIP over a data network supports HD codecs with sampling rates and frequency ranges well beyond the old phone network, so calls sound clearer than analog or digital lines.
What happens if my internet or power goes out?
Calls are automatically redirected. Unavailable Call Forwarding sends calls to cell phones or other numbers when the internet fails, the power goes out, or a phone is unplugged, no intervention required. Pair it with our internet failover and the phones stay up.
Do I still need a fax line?
For a few devices, some fax, alarm, postage, or credit-card machines, a single analog line is still the safest choice, since fax-over-VoIP isn't 100% reliable. For everyday faxing, our cloud fax sends and receives by email or web with no machine at all.
