SMS / Text Messaging Policy

How business texting works on Phoneware, consent, opt-out, and the 10DLC registration we handle for you.

Last updated: July 1, 2026

This policy explains how text messaging works on Phoneware and the rules that keep it compliant and deliverable. It applies to businesses that use Phoneware texting and to the people they message.

Consent & opt-in

Phoneware business texting is for sending and receiving messages with people who have agreed to hear from your business. As the business sending messages, you are responsible for obtaining clear, prior consent from each recipient, keeping records of that consent, and honoring opt-outs. Consent is never purchased, sold, or shared, and consent to receive messages from your business is not shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing.

Message types

Depending on how you set up texting, messages may include customer service replies, appointment reminders and confirmations, account or order notifications, and, where the recipient has opted in, promotional messages. You control your content and use cases, and they must match what was registered for your campaign.

Message frequency & rates

Message frequency varies based on how your business uses texting and how recipients interact with you. Message and data rates may apply, depending on the recipient’s mobile plan and carrier.

Opting out & getting help

Recipients can reply STOP at any time to opt out of further messages, and HELP to get assistance. We support these standard keywords so recipients always stay in control of the messages they receive. Once someone opts out, messaging to that number stops except for a single confirmation.

Privacy

Messaging data is handled under our Privacy Policy. We use your contacts and message content only to deliver your messaging service, not for any other purpose, and we do not sell them.

10DLC registration, handled for you

To cut spam and improve deliverability, the mobile carriers created The Campaign Registry to manage messaging to and from standard 10-digit numbers, known as 10DLC (10-digit long code). Registering your business and campaign keeps messages from being flagged, blocked, or fined. Phoneware acts as your Campaign Service Provider and handles 10DLC and Campaign Registry registration for you, and registration through Phoneware is free.
